I Am Grateful For - Day 27

Missionary Work!
We watched the movie The Errand Of Angels today at my in-laws after Thanksgiving dinner and it made me want to get my nametag and be a missionary again... so much!! What a great movie! Maybe it is because I also served a full-time LDS mission, I really think the movie did a very good job sharing the ups and downs of sister missionay work! Have you watched it?
I was digging through pics on my Portuguese blog and found this one of Thanksgiving at the mission home. Can you find me? Hint: I am *not* on the left side :)

Good times!
I hope "Thanksgiving" is not over for all of us after today. I hope we will thank our Father in Heaven every single day for the many, many, MANY blessings that each of us has. I know I will :)

And Off He Went...

Ismael started feeling better after he went to the doctor and of course after he got a blessing, and on Friday he was set apart as an Elder for The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. This picture was taken right after he was set apart:

After that, we took his and Trevor's family to have dinner here at the Noni Cafe on Friday and then walked around the gardens. In the picture only a few people are missing: my father in law Scott, my brothers in law Mikey and Adam.

Aren't we cute? :)

A Walk to Remember :)

On Sunday we went on a drive up the canyons to show Sundance and Provo Canyon to the parents of Ismael, our friend who is going on a LDS mission very soon. His family is from Spain and his dad came to visit Utah and say farewell to his son before he enters the MTC.
Here are some pics from our awesome Sunday afternoon with the Sanchez Family!

This was up on Sundance on the road to Aspen Grove.
Trevor and I on the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls.

(and some dude on the back ruining my picture, blah!)
I love this bridge, we have an engagement picture there.

July 2008 - July 2010

He wasn't able to go in the MTC today as planned due to an illness. Please pray for Ismael, that he will be healed and will be able to go in the MTC soon to prepare to serve the Lord for the next 24 months! He is so excited! And so are we, his friends. We love you, Isma!

My Mission Reunion

Sunday evening we went to my mission president's house in SLC to visit with them and others who served the Brazil Curitiba Mission between 1998 and 2001. I served from Sept 1998 till March 2000, and yes, it was some of the best months of my life!

Sister Paulsen
made Brazilian beans - de.li-ci.ous! - and they also had oranges, guarana - brazilian soda, yummie!, Brazilian bread rolls and a yummie frozen chocolate cake. When I say yummie it's because it LOOKED yummie, of course these foods are EVIL and all I ate was the beans, for protein. I know, poor me, sob sob... but no pain, no gain, right?

This picture was from right before we left, one hour into the reunion started, and I already heard that over 20 more people showed up after that. Sad. I wish I had seen them! Luckily though I knew all these people who were there when I was there, forgot some names, but knew them from the mish.
Elder Ivy was my FIRST zone leader in Ponta Grossa, Parana. He is hilarious and was an awesome leader.
Elder Bretzing was my district leader for a while and Elder Jensen and I were in the same zone for a whle too.
Elder Richards was my third zone leader and thus was in the area I spent most time in, Araucaria, Parana. I loved that area SO MUCH!! And Richards (or Kurt) is like a brother to me! He often calls just to chat and find out how I am doing, isn't that awesome? His wife is pregnant with their fourth baby and even though he STOLE the name I wanted to use for my daughter (when I have one), I still love him and his family! :)

Being with these people yesterday really made me miss the mission. Not only Araucaria, the area I was in for about half my service, but the people I met and the experiences I had. I was blessed to train three sisters while I was there. I caught lice and had to almost shave off my head (Pres almost had a heart attack when he saw me! But what could I do? Imagine, just IMAGINE my hair with lice... not good!), and it was in Araucaria that I cried for the first time when a family I grew to love and that was making so much progressed declined our visits out of the blue.

It was in Araucaria that I had doubts and asked myself, with much frustration and discouragement the questions that I believe every missionary asks him/herself: why am I here? Is it worth it? And it was there that I received answers to those questions. Yes, it is worth it, every and each person is important to Heavenly Father and He really wants us to share the gospel with all of them.

I am so far from being perfect, I have so many flaws and would need to change so much to become what I could become, but those 18 months really helped me love the gospel and "the work." It helped me grow in so many ways and I miss those times... a lot!
As Elder Jeffrey R. Holland said yesterday during conference:
The scriptures and the prophets teach us that God IS, not was, that He SPEAKS, not spake. He lives! He loves us! He speaks! His work will never end and His words will never cease.

Trevor's Mission Reunion

It was yesterday, Friday, at a chapel in Provo.
His mission president and wife live in Arizona but came up for conference and invited the missionaries to visit. It was a nice event.
Here is my lame collage, in Portuguese... (someone please teach me how to photoshop!)

On the top left, Trevor's companion and best friend Jordan and his wife Lindsey, me, Trevor, and elder Chavez and his wife.
The second picture has Trevor, Jordan and two other missionaries from the Vera Cruz Mexico mission.
The last picture has his mission president and wife and Trevor and me. Please note that those boobs are not all mine, they are victoria's secret's! Kuddos for their new bio-something bra. I love it, it loves me, it's PERFECT! :)

Watching conference this morning feeling guilty about eating bread last night. Jordan and Lindsey and us went to Carrabas for dinner after the reunion. Have you been there? Could you resist their warm bread dipped i olive oil and herbs? Yeah, neither could I! *sigh* Trevor kept telling me "just splurge, it's ok". No, it's not okay, cuz Kika can't eat just one slice, no, no no, Kika eats almost the HOLE LOAF!!! So, yah, splurge is what I did. Blah!

So... I am going to watch the second session at the gym, running, burning the 458304875 thousand calories from that bread. Humph!
